Anyone looking for something special and willing to put up with an hour's drive should definitely visit the free rider slopes of the Arena Grossglockner. Alternatively, the Ankogel in Mallnitz attracts advanced skiers and professionals from all over the world.

Skigebiet Gerlitzen Alpe:
The Gerlitzen Kanzelbahn, which is only 15 kilometres away, welcomes its visitors from November to April from 8:15 a.m. and takes them up the mountain, which just missed the 2000m mark. Optimally groomed and wide pistes as well as modern lifts offer lots of skiing and snowboarding fun for beginners and advanced skiers.

Skigebiet Dreiländereck:
The Dreiländereck ski area awaits you about 18 kilometers away, which has ski slopes of the same length countries in one day and enjoying incomparable views of the Julian Alps, this ski area is also particularly suitable for families with children, as there are many toboggan runs.

Ski touring and cross-country skiing

The Karawankenloipe directly at Lake Faaker See is one of the most popular tours in the area and should definitely be on your to-do list for your winter holiday in Carinthia. If the speed in the valley is not enough, skaters, cross-country skiers and parallel skiers can also use one of the numerous groomed paths on the Gerlitze and the Dobratsch. The latter is also perfectly suited for fascinating hikes on snowshoes or touring skis. Ice skating
Many of the numerous lakes in the region also invite you to ice skate in winter and are explicitly approved for this - such as the Weißensee or the Aichwaldsee. There is also a small ice rink in the center of Villach, where a visit to the Christmas market can be combined with a round of ice skating.
